how many times does it turn before it starts? mine only takes 1 to 2 turns even in the coldest weather.

To get mine to start, even in sub-zero, I just give it full choke and no throttle, and turn it over until it starts (usually 4 or 5 turns).
Try charging your battery, it might be a bit flat, and that'd cause it to turn over more slowly.

keep well on top of timing, dwell, points, plugs, plug gaps, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm - and fit a decent battery (i have the biggest that will physically go in the hole). Mine starts first turn everytime.

Tune it properly. Our car starts just about the instant it kicks over more or less every time. I'd be surprised if it made one full turn. You need good compression, the right fuel level in the float bowl (very important), healthy plugs and ignition, good valve clearances and a well setup carb. Induction air leaks are bad too.

Assuming your car is generally in good tune as mentioned above it should start fairly quickly. Is your car carburetted or injected and what ignition is in it (points or electronic)? My car has dual carbs, electronic ignition and I'm runing Bosch W7DTC plugs. This combination along with a general good state of tune allows the car to start on the first or second turn of the ignition key. I use full choke, no throttle, and as soon as it fires I push the choke in to obtain 1500-2000 RPM... then drive right off.

Oh yeah, that's a good point DK. If it's injected it has to turn something like three times before it will fire so that the computer can synchronise itself to the cam.
