Welcome to the Injection Section,

The idea of this injection specific area is to help those with the kind of problems that can occur with the SPI and MPI models.

Whether it be tuning advice you're after or just some simple maintainance work on your injected engine there should be the information here for you.

If you are having any problems at all the let us know, as its likely one of us may have dealt with it.

We will have information about converting from carb to injection, ECU choices and links, Injector test info, and much more.

I hope you find this area useful.

Cheers

As above really.

Please be aware that what i know on this subject is purely self taught and im always learning, I am not a motor mechanic, though i am in the mechanical trades. Dev and my self will endevour to help sort out issues and seek the information you require. This section can only get bigger, more informative, and acurate as people use it.

One thing that we would like is that if you have a problem that has been rectified, please tell us what it was and how it was rectified. Likewise if the problem is still peristant, please tell us, the problem wont go away but we will still be trying to resolve the issue. Binning it for carbs is a bit over the top.

Please also be aware that diagnosing a problem without actualy looking at the engine in person, can be and is very difficult. Acurate descriptions of symptoms is always a help. Help us to help you :ermm:

Im off to dust down some of the topics :xxx:

Nice to see you guys start this up!!

Maybe with a little knowledge, people will stop scrapping the FI systems for carbs.
The more they are used, the more aftermarket parts will be available.

Can ANYONE help me? I have a 1275 spi mini that the main/fuel pump relay box is destroyed beyond repair. I need to know can i replace the 4 relays in the box with 4 separate relays, and wire accordingly. Do i need to transfer all the resistors etc aswell? Thanks

Same as any car, you can go the naturally aspirated route or blown, and the sky and your wallet are the limit. I would personally reccommend nitrous, 99% your car is economical as always, taking it easy, and when a honda civic pulls up at the lights and laughs at you, flick that switch, and wipe that smile off his face

HI IVE GOT A 1995 SPI COOPER

THE PROBLEM IS IVE BOUGHT A NEW 70 AMP ALTERNATOR AND WORKS GREAT FOR SOMETIME BUT THeN WHEN I TURN THE KEY OFF AND THEN TURN BACK ON TO POSITION NO 2 THE BATTERY LIGHT IS OFF and the car start and volt meter reads 11.7v

SO I PUT A NEW CONNETION FROM THE HARNESS TO THE ALTERNATOR (SPECIAL CRIMP IN A SMALL BOX) AND STILL HASENT CURED IT works for a week then off

SO I PUT SOME WHITE GREASE IN THE CONNECTION AND IT WORK FOR A BIT
so I PULL THE HARNESS(the wires from the harness to the alternator connecton) and the light comes on again only happens sometimes not every time

so i thin its a dodgy relay or a dodgy wire in the harness? has any one else got this sort of problem before

I have a 1996 1275 Mini Cooper SPI.
I have recently put an RC40 single tailpipe exhaust on and at the weekend I put a K&N air filter on.
While driving I have noticed the power increase (if only slightly feels faster to me!!) but once warmed up tick over is at about 900rpm and i can smell petrol!
I was just wondering what would be the best thing to do to sort out the tick over and the over fueling!

Any help would be great.

I would like to add, that not all cars converted to carb from injection, has to be due to 'binning' the system. I fitted twin carb's in harmony with the other elements of the Spi management system. It's great!
