power the lights stright off a 12v feed, if its for UVs or something just off the cig plug you will have 2 wires tap them into a 12v that you want and earth it out,
but put a switch on the 12v wire so you can turn it off and on,

looks better and saves you cutting up your dash for a plug socket...

but i do have one my self from when i smoked alot
theres a pic of mine in the dash..

easy to fit, again 12v and a earth and thats it, enless you wanted it to light up

i have two in my mini
i find them VERY useful
mind were installed when i got the car
instead of having to cut anything, mine are mounted side by side in a small box, screwed to the lowerdash rail, tehy just sit in the far corner and dont hurt anything, yet they are VERY useful, i run my phone charger from it, and keep a 12v flourescent tube 12'' long in the passengers door pocket for extra light, hangs from the rear veiw mirror and lights the whole car really nicely....

Less than a tenner, most places ( try Vehicle Wiring Products, for some reason it is listed under switches), easy to fit (get a cigarette lighter bracket to bolt under the dash rail) just consult the HBOL on the wiring diagram for the Mini 1100 Special to see the easist way to hook one up. Depending on the age of you car you may find some of the connectors are already in the loom where the sub loom should join it. Or just stick it straight on the accessory position of the fuse box (with a 5 amp in line fuse).
