there was a thread on here a long time back, with regards to what the best oil was to use in a mini engine??

can anybody remember what it was?

Also i am after a set of NGK platinum tip spark plugs, as i have been told these will be better for my engine, than the cheap jack ones i have in there at the minute!
anybody know where to get them from?

Mini Engines like in my experience and oil that isn't too thin. Something like a 15/50 of a 10/60. This is because the gaskets are C**p and much thinner it will just leak out. LOL!

I would also not buy synthetic, mini engines are supposed to be run on a mineral oil. I can't quite remember why though..

Also ignore the advice of buying platinum plugs waste of money on a mini, esp one that is of relativly standard tune.. The only reason peeps buy platinum plugs is cause you can run a finer tip on them to get a stronger spark which is unlikly to be blown out buy cylinder pressures and they can stand higher combustion temps.

I don't know if there is a different set of wisdom for late model injected engines. The older A-series stuff runs very well on 20W-50. I use Castrol or Valvoline. As mentioned above, do not use synthetic. You need a little friction for the synchros in your gearbox to work well. Synthetics are a little too slippery.

im fed up of spending out on oil, it only get burnt or leaks, so i now buy wilkinsons 20w/50, 2.99 for 4 1/2 l of the stuff

i always use duckhams 20/50 mineral oil, at only £8 a gallon it aint bad either. If the engine has done less than 60,000 you'll get away with 10/40. Don't use fully synthetic under any circumstances, its not the engine that doesn't like it more the gearbox.

I use Halfords 10/40... never had a problem.... cleans off the drive without staining.. lol :cheese:

Well infact, we mostly use cheapo Asda stuff now, just because it is easier then carrying two containers of oil through town!

cheapo 20W50 stuff from asda lol, its 2.50 for 4.5L ill use some better stuff when i have my new engine in it. till then i dont really care as long as it works

Halfords 15w40 - not too expensive and seems to do the job well enough.

For those running in a new engine, make sure you use a pure mineral oil, with no additives, for the first couple hundred miles or so, will allow everything to bed in.

I use Penrite, but costs a pretty penny, think I paid 20 quid for 5 ltrs at a show.

i used 10.40 and my car leaked in loads of places, using 15/40 castrol GTX oil because my dad gets it in 100's of gallons cheap.

20/50 wil lge tu started mate! make sure your rocker gasket is on perfectly other wise itle come out the back or where ever it aint sitting right.

15/40 is what I use. And my Dad advised me to get Duckhams!! Meant to be the best.
