right guys n gals, this is my new car/engine spec:#

1275 MG Metro Block
Re-surfaced, bores honed
New rings
Swiftune SW5 Camshaft, good from 1500rpm to 6-7
Centre Mains strap
Central oil pick up
240lb Double Valve Springs
Bronze alloy valve guides
pipercross foam filter
HIF44
brand new ancillarys
Stage 3/4 Bespoke Head
1.5:1 Ratio Roller Tip Rockers
2 1/2 inch tail pipe, on a full stainless LCB and link pipe
Stripped out interior, on 12x6 ultralight alloy split rims

in february i have £900 of carbon fibre coming, to replace the front end, boot, doors and dash. im guessing this will make alot of difference?

what kind of 0-60 do you think im looking at?, the engine and gearbox been built to the best standards possible, so it should hold up to alot of stress..

thanks, James

top speeds in most minis are all around 100, due to the final drive ratio on the differential, thats why am not too interested in that, i had 105 out of my last engine anyway...

thanks for the input so far

well unofficially i've had 105 out of mine but 98 is my recorded top speed thanks to a mate who was along side me! Yours should be quicker upto the top end though once you get all these carbon fibre goodies on it though!!! Keep up the good work.

As you said earlier, depends on your final drive...

I've found 3.4 to be a good compromise between engine noise @ speed and grin factor.. Running that you'll be doing 60mph @ 3500

As for "how quick", without the carbon, and if the head is well done ( 12G940, bigger valves and ported ) you should be clear of the ton, and 1/4 around the 17 secs mine, it a very similar spec to mine.

Other things which may help are, uprating the ignition, sport coil, Aldon Dizzy, maybe elctronic ign. Lightened flywheel, and getting the whole thing balanced, also a close ratio gearbox and even better, straight cut !

With the weight loss program your proposing, which is not cheap, I'd definitely get a lightened flywheel, and also be thinking about the SC/CR gearbox, and uprating the Diff

oh and as for the SC/CR gearbox, i have considered this already, but a well built sturdy helical box will take the good part of 100bhp... so i have decided to get the box overhauled properly.

is matt doing ur guides or is it a trip to the machine shop?
guessworks, the flywheel on its verto and therefore isnt surposed to b lightened and is a heavy beast, i recon wynn go for the pre verto unless uv already got the clutch on order? just find another bell housing(matt lol) and slave cylinder and ur away.

how quick will the car be? well with u driving it itl go quite quickly.... into a hedge... probably through it this time lol

just got this email from Curley UK Ltd;

Dear James

Unfortunately we do not manufacture a Clubman style front end, only a Clubman bonnet.

Regarding the dashes;

With the Switch Pod, Evo 2 ASAD, and Evo Tino Dash's, you are able to trim the centre consoles, so that you do not have to change the gear linkage, or if you bought the Evo 3 ASAD without the Centre Console, then there would be no need to change it.

I hope that helps.

Best wishes

The reason most Mini's run out of steam around 105 Mph is more to do with aerodynamics. As Guessworks has pointed out you can change the final drive from the huge range available to get different speeds as required, but to get very far above the ton requires stupendous power. Check out the research ERA did into the Mini's co-efficient of drag when they were designing the turbo, and why they decided not to push for the originally intended 120 Mph HERE.

Good luck with this motor mate, it sounds like it's going to be a real snorter.
