1994 spi cooper keeps cutting out

Can please someone help.Turn the engine on idles upto 2000rpm then all of a sudden drops to 1000 rpm then below and then just cuts out,start it up again does the same again,go out for a drive has long as you have your foot on the accerlerator to keep it above 1000rpm it will not cut out,as soon as you come to slow down changing through the gears into second it cuts out,therfore having to start it up again foot down on the accerlerator to get the revs up.Please any help would be great,PLEASE.

Sorry mate for not replying, im working away at the moment and wont be back till tuesday evening, its costing me a fortune on these pay as you go internet connections so i'm leaving the long winded thoughtfull replies till i get back, sorry dude. Bear with me, i'll have a think over it and reply tuesday night most likely with an essay, lol

on carb minis that would just be a problem with the choke but spi's have auto choke... so not sure sorry.

Not at all ben!!! it could point to a throttle body problem.... for some reason, your mixture is incorrect at idle and ok above idle... I've never owned an SPI...

you haven't filled up at tesco recently have you????? :)

I had the same problem, and they fixed it.. cost bout £8

Took it in to the garage today,and they say it is the crankshaft sensor,and some of the vacumn pipes,hope this will get me up and running again.

MMM crank sensor, why do I doubt that. Its an expensive part

The garage had it on is machine and he explained the red outs it had given,and the main culprit was the crank sensor £70's worth.

I mean read outs,SORRY.Got the car back today ,the invoice reads Investigate cause of erratic idle speed and cutting out,carry out fault code test,crank sensor fault,carry out live data tests M.A.P sensor readings poor,traced to split vacumn pipe,correct and re check.renew crank sensor and clear down fault
