Hola forum people.
I just picked up my clubman shell that i bought from Ebay, and am pleased with it. some of the welding is not the very best you will see, but it is a damn sight better than katie's body work.
more as it follows.......

Madmax,

how much do you want to spend? I have a clubman shell that needs a tiny little bit of work to get ready and it's stripped down already! The reat seat was cut out to allow the easy fitment of a 6 point rollcage but a better prospect has since reared its head! Comes with 2 sets of doors (both need a little work) and a bootlid ! Also for the right money it comes with all the bumpers, seats, speedo and a box of spares

Let me knwo if your interested by PM!

I also have a clubman carbon fibre bonnet and bootlid as i was goin the lightweight racer route! I'm after £120 for both with P&P to be investigated

am looking at pearescent deep reds for the car paint, nice cream roof. cream interior. nothing too hot under the bonnet, not fussed about ice either. i may rebuild the 1275 engine if i can be bothered. i just want a pretty well sorted car. Most of the running gear on the donor car has just this minute been refurbed. will run the donor car as long as i can and do as much as i can to the new shell before doing "the big swap"
is metallic and pealescent paint more difficult to spray.
what chould i rust-proof the floor with??? hamorite????

AFAIK the only tricky bit is that you need to paint all the panels in the same direction if you want the best effect from the paint. Remembering to do that if you paint it with the doors off is important (as in if you paint the body side left to right don't then do the door top to bottom, easily done with the boot lid or bonnet if you have them off the car). I might be wrong though.
IMHO Hammerite (or Smoothrite) is rubbish. Not really rust proof, doesn't stick to mild steel very well and far too expensive. It's not designed for painting cars, it's designed for painting wrought iron garden fences. Use some proper body paint.

yeh i would use waxoyl, i have just hammerited mine on the whole underside, it was a pain in the back side...

waxoyl has its own spray adaptor that you can get, and its DESIGNED for spraying the underside of vehicles.

im only hammeriting it at the moment as i cant be bothered to use anything else, soon its being waxoyled though.

For rust proofing cover all bare metal surfaces with zinc fosphate primer as its bloody good styuff to the extent that we use it in the trade now, hamerite is all rite but aint as professional.

Metalic basecoats are just as easy as straight colours to apply its the clear coat or laquer as it is known that is the hard part as even proffesionals can sometimes get the lauer to run unexpectedly but in my honest oppinion metallics show up the cuves of a mini brilliantly as long as a good cloour choice is made.

any more advice on paint etc just ask as im doing my mini and am training at college at the moment to do it as a job as ive already passed year one and am on year two.

just looked at pic where did you buy the shell from that looks like my old clubby and i sold it a hell of a lot cheaper than that
