been reding through everything on hear so thought i might aswell post my questions.
I currently have a 96 sidewalk spi, i have titan high lift rockers at this point as i dont
want to take the engine out just yet, along with a k&n replacement element, maniflow lcb
and rc40 cat back twin box system.

My next obvious step is the head which i intended to raise the cr to cooper spec something like the following:
10:1cr 35.7mm inlet valves & 29.6mm exhaust valves, double valve springs, iron valve guides, new valve seats, gas flowed, polished ported balance combustion chambers?

What cooper ecu do i need the previous owner removed the immobiliser due to problems so i have a aftermarket toad alarm and immobiliser fitted?

I then just intened to run this engine until i obtain a spare which im thinking of the following:

Above head
1340 block
lightened and balanced clutch assy, reground crank, uprated clutch plate
sw5 kit, PIPER270 OR Morespeed PH2 cam

any opions comments suggestion appriciated

your next step will need to be a bigger throttle body i think!!!!!

Sprocket is the man to speak to about the ECU... or dan.... or a few others who just seem to be books on the subject!!!!

All sounds good to me.

Dont worry about the larger throttle body at the minuit, but when you go to 1340 at least fit the larger injector from a Rover 1.4 8valve K series engine, not the 1.4 16valve K series, leave that one for 100bhp  :ermm: (It does have its problems)

There is an uncoded Cooper ECU that should work better with your compression ratio, but to get the full advantage you need to fit the cam. ECU number - MNE 101070

ye thanks, ive heard that theres no need for the 52mm throttle body anyway,
what cam would u reccomend then? how involved is it fitting the 8v k series injector?

also on a slightly off topic, i want my car running abit beta at the moment, it seems
to be overfueling quite badly and was just wondering what areas u would suggest i examined?
as the mots due in a few months n think i will have a job on the emmisions!

Over fueling can be a result of several things and any combination of them. it could be the coolant temp sensor, air temp sensor or the Lambda sensor. Its a good idea to make sure the throttle cable and stepper motor are adjusted correctly. It is possiblt to get a rich condition as a result of the above, if the idle is high, the stepper is at zero steps and the ignition advance is very low trying to bring the idle speed down. A fouled or faulty Lambda sensor can cause a permenant rich condition. If the coolant temp sensor does not read the correct temp it can keep the ECU in the warm up mode. the latter can also be caused by fitting the wrong temp thermostat. Check the vac lines to the ecu are free of leaks, very important. Dirty fuel injector is also a possability, ultra sonic cleaning can sort that.

A diagnostic can tell you a lot of things if used by the right person, more often that not its used by a monkey that cant think for himself to use the information it gives to correctly diagnose the fault based on basic engine theory.

As for swapping out the injector, this is fairly simple afair but will require the removal of the injector and pressure reg housing. simply remove the single screw retaining the yellow cap and pull the cap off, press the protruding part of the injector at the bottom ( the bit that squirts the fuel) down onto a piece of wood, while holding the injector housing. The injector will push up and can be removed. Refitting, lightly oil the o rings and line it up correctly and push it home.

great thanks had a rotten down pipe so changed over to a lcb so i guess my first suspected thing would b the
lambda sensor but i will check the easy things i can do myself first and if i have no joy il have to try n find
a recommended garage to do a diagnostic on it

MNE 101070 is an uncoded Cooper ECU

What is your original ECU number and how was the imobiliser removed?
