I am building one - most definately on a budget - shoestring in fact - that means when others are fitting nice carbon pieces, I use the thinnest alu I can find and cover it with duck tape and paint the front engine bay with white hammerite :w00t: check out my thread. It also means that instead of buying the nice looking £90.00 airbox, you get the original one, attack it with a hacksaw, stuff some posh foam in and stick some wire across it :)

The way I see it, have only really driven FWD, want to use it for track and hillclimbs, it won't be road legal so will have little experience with it b4 using it, so if I prang it don't want to be too stressed and yes for £5000 the speed will be enough to beat most of the rubbish you can buy. I love the car in this thread and am insanely jealous in some ways, but in others I know that effectively we own the same type of car. I can always improve/reshell mine, (just as well as its the last big car purchase I make, it has to last me til I am 70 :)) I will get my £'s worth  as I am sure the owners of the one in this thread will. Depends how you want to approach the project really, the biggest thing for me is lack of time and wanting to see a return for the outlay.

cheers

I take my hat off to you for doing it yourself. I just don't know where I went wrong in life, I should have been learning mechanics and stuff. But now I don't have the time, skill or space to do anything like that so good luck to you! When we were at Z Cars I had a brief look at Chris' works racer and there was something about that - just function, nothing fancy, like it didn't even have a bulkhead that I can remember. A hardcore machine, fit for for purpose. I like that. I guess ours is on the luxurious side but I hope that doesn't stop us racing it because it would be a shame if it did.

That's a thing I thought I could get into - ECU mapping. I'm quite good on computers. Dunno. We went for the luxury option on that with Z Cars too, which is the rolling road set up. Apparently they can get close to the top without it, by ear or smell or something. I don't know. But for the top ******** you've got to put it on the dyno for a day. Not cheap but we'll get the full 235 brake.

MiniSpeed just get them from Curley, so you might as well go straight to him, and cut out the middle man! Apparently TMF members get a discount with Curley too?!

Hehe. He brought it in a trailer. So it's here now. We've had a short drive, not pushing it. It's absolutely immaculate. I need to take some pics tomorrow for the insurance and I'll post them up here. I'm slightly in awe of it to be honest. It'll take a bit of time to get used to it. And it's so pristine we're frightened to touch it. Honestly it's like a having a new baby.

I'll try and upload the pix that I took for the insurance company tonight but the location isn't very glamorous - outside my garage. Only trouble is they're fecking huge and I haven't got and graphics software on that machine. Hang on, I can use Irfanview. I'll d/l that and put them up.
