i am getting really annoyed with my car, i spend every weekend working on it and it just goes more wrong. i used to get to school and going out on £10 a week, i am still doing the same mileage, but now its costing me £30ish. i worked out i am only getting 26mpg. i have checked all the vacume pipes, as this was a problem last year, but they are all ok. its not even performing as good as it used to, ie, its slower. and to top it off i have a knocking noise coming from somewhere, it burns oil, needs lower sus ball joints, new pads and have the mot next week. i never seem to be able to fix it. any ideas why the excessive fule consumption, i can just about live with the rest. (o, and its a 1.3 spi cooper)

For better or for worse??

as soon as i get mine back i will have a see at how much fuel it is using. mine is doing my head in at the mo, its costing me a shed load of money, and not even for the best!

I know I bang on about this, but a very common cause of faults on Mini injection engines is the coolant sensor. Does the temperature gauge work? If the injection ecu doesn't get the signal that the coolant is up to temperature the cold start routine will just keep running all the time, it's kind of like running on full choke. So it will burn more fuel, but more importantly it could wash the oil off the bores on every stroke severely damaging the lubrication and leading to engine wear.
Or it could be the inlet manifold air temperature sensor. If it thinks the inlet charge is cold it will be bunging extra fuel in again.

the roller rockers made it alot worse! though on an injection mini its more likely to be sensors!
