Don't worry about driving around without the gaurd on, many people take them off completely!

What I would be worried about is that fluid/grease that's on the gaurd! Find out what it is where it came from and whether it got on the actual disc or not... That will cause you a lot more trouble than the lack of a gaurd!!!

Oil? If any of that got onto the disc you'll need a new disc, and looking at the pic a pair of new discs probably wouldn't be a bad idea anyway :] Might as well change the pads while you're at it!

if the oil gets on the pads it will contaminate them and they'll need changin so dont get it anywhere near th pads, if it gets on the disc just clean it off with brake cleaner
i think most people run without those shields.

The sheilds are there to prevent water getting on the brakes, You can remove them, I always do, but be carefull in very heavy rain or through standing water as this may effect the braking.

Ditch em they just add weight, never run the rally Min with them on and that sees plenty of water on the brakes.

It also sees more brake use than most road cars though, so the discs and pads will be normally running at a higher temperature than the road car so the water boils off more readily. And a road car is more likely to see an emergency stop than a rally car, there's no one sitting next to the driver telling them what comes after the next bend.
I usually run the disc shields, but you can leave them off if you want. They do serve a purpose but as you can see lots of people ditch them. I think they are around twenty quid for the set, but you might be able to just buy the damaged parts. Most places sell them, and don't get ripped off for them by the scrappy or anyone if you get second hand ones 'because they've never been rare parts.

If you cant get hold of any of those shields ive got a set laying around you can have, thats if you really want to run them of course.
