hey guys, as you know im in the process of respraying my mini, and fitting a curely carbon front
ive now fitted the front, and its awsome, but ive not yet fitted any lights or such things....
the problem ive come across is the side repeaters.
due to the way they are wired in (nearside comes from the bulkhead not the front part of the loom-offside leaves the loom near the servo) i really dont want to incorperate them into the wiring plug for the removable front.
i also am not overly keen on cutting a square hole in the sides of my curley front either....
basicly, i want to keep the repeaters part of the car, not the front.

so
ive been told that my min (1991) will not pass an MOT without side repeaters, so im guessing tehy ahve to stay....
would it still be legal if they were mounted in the a-panels? i think with careful positioning they could be made to look ok in the a-panels, and would serve the same purpose....
has anyone else done this? and is it totally legal (only reason i can see for it not being is the seam stops it being seen from the front)?

also....
on the subject, will there be any questions asked about my removable front at MOT time? ive solid mounted the towers and floor mounts, and fitted brace bars, the front is held on pretty firmly with pins and clips at the bottom of the front, and 2dzeus fastners on each side at the a-panel, im also thinking of fitting a leather strap on each side for safteys sake.

any help would be great
thanks
nick

Side repeaters don't need to be seen from the front (that's why they are side repeaters :saywhat: ) but they do need to be within a certain distance of the front of the car. I can't remember how far exactly at the moment. It is easy to wire them into the front, unplug them from the loom and tape up the loom connectors to keep dirt and water out and wire them directly off the indicator lamps instead.

If they have to be put into your removable front, make sure they can be unclipped from the wiring loom somehow using somthing.

Just dont bother fitting them, as long as you can see the front indicators from the side, then it will be ok for the MOT as older minis didnt have them. If they are fitted tho, they have to work.

cheers for the info guys, i had a look at teh cutout in my old wings, and decided it wouldnt be too hard to make in the a-panels, so got a pen, a drill, and a few files, and had a go
end result is shown below
with the arches in place it looks pretty neat, doesnt look silly at least, and they fit nice and snuggly, almost better than in the original holes!

You are right of course that older Mini's had no such junk on the wings, but all cars from 1988 (or '85, I can't remember) require side repeat indicators rather than just indicators which are visible from the side.

Nice work Prawn, looks good.

If it is a 91 it deffo needs side repeaters (I used to be an M.O.T. tester, I think it was anything after 1986, but can't remember since it was 5 years ago that I stopped testing).

Oh, and I would definitely pass it if they were mounted on the A-panels.
