Hi, sorry to post questions on a first post but this is first mini forum i have been to. Better intoduce myself, me and my partner own an 80 mini HL and i am afraid i have been bitten by its charms and i want another mini. We have just recently brought our first home and the mini has been our saving grace of late as my mk3 crx had to make way for house, and its time for me to get rid of my mint mk2 golf gti and get a mini. Insurance is not really a problem as in nice area few yrs ncb and touch wood clean licenece. so i would like to ask a couple of q's.

I am used to having a few fast cars and as such i would like a mini with a bit of go about it. What are my options? as far as i see it i have 2. Find a good mini in good condition that looks nice, regardless of engine and then drop a nice engine in. would a metro mg engine give me enough poke? what kind of 0-60 would a mini with a std mg engine do? is an mg engine 80 bhp as std?

or look to get a mini in good nick already with a good engine in? i quite like the clubman style and it would be different to the mini we already have, how quick are the 1275 gt's?

i have a budget of about the 1250 just for the car, not bothered with ice, not too fussed on looks, nice simple mini in good nick, nice small wheels and pokey solid engine would be nice.

so any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. not too sure on mini's performance but our std 998 is plently fun on our local twisties, but would like a bit more poke to abuse the locals with.

as for mini with a standard metro engine, i dont have a clue but im sure that it will be more pokey than the 998! and also remember that you can modify the engine to give you any extra power or torque that you require.

Don't ask me, mine's a pokey 998. Welcome to the board though! I'd love to get my hands on a nice 1275GT to go along with my Mini, but they're even harder to find than standard Minis in the US.

Hello mate, and welcome...

Buy the mini that you like, look out for all the usual rot spots tho (there is a bost on here somewere anout were to look for rust).

As far as engines go, a metro lump will give good power gains, but if you get the chance, then mod it with a cam and decent head. You can do this cheap...

Or if your feelin a bit flush, got for a bigger engine, but it will require an overbore, or buy it as a kit from one of the mini specialists...

Minis dont need massive engines because they weigh next to nothin!

Hi mate,Right 1275 Metro HLE,L and the MG Turbo Motor share the same valve sizes,MG Metro and the VDP metro have the bigger vale heads.Standard 1275 A+ makes around 58-62 Bhp.The MG 1275 Gives about 70-72 Bhp and with a little time & money will easily put up the 80BHP you are looking for.I have a metro A+ 1275 in mine and with a HIF44 carb is enough.You dont tend to do flat out runs for miles in a mini,its loads more fun on the twisty bits because what you lack in power you gain in the handling Dept.There is also the gearing factor with the size of wheels you use and what diff is in but one thing is for sure,small car BIG GRIN FACTOR!!

other than, get a mini because you dont no what you missing out on lol
