when does it do it? is it constant or does it only do it on acceleration and deceleration? Sounds awfully like tired engine steady bushes to me, which could be causing the exhaust to bang on the bulkhead, and make the knocking noise in that sort of area.

it could be your driveshaft. i have a knocking noise from drivers side in what sounds like the engine bay area. it knocks on acceleration. mine is a case of worn splines on the drive shaft, so kinda need a new one. other than that, it could be the head steady rubber bush gone. this also happened to me, a new one is just a jew pounds and easy to fit.

nothampton hey, its probably got something to do with all the speed bumps there are around there, especially corby way, too high to drive over and a bugger to mount! have a check underneth the car if you haven't found the problem yet and check if all the exhaust brackets are tight and none broken especially the one underneith the manafold clip thats one i broke made a banging sound?
