Ok, i am seriously contemplating going for a carbon bonnet.

Just wanted to know other opinions??

i have had a quick play in photoshop and got these results, only you need to imagine it with a Mk1 lip.

Has anybody got pics of any other minis with carbon parts?

I was going to raise the back of it aswel.

After tlaking to palmer on msn about it (the pic with no badge was my idea ) I am also consdiering this.

I wanted to de badge my current bonnet and have it repsrayed due to some bad scratches, but that would cost about the same as getting a Carbon Fibre bonnet, which I really fancy getting!.

Im going to either fix the bonnet down with locking bonnet pins at the back, and some kind of way at the front that is hidden, or get normal boonet pins at the back and use a internal release kit for it.

Im not to sure about having the spring catches at the front, although using those with locking bonnet pins at the back would be easiest

How were you going to do it P91MER?

I love the idea, but get a respray in a lighter colour to really pick out the carbon fibre bonnet.

i think if u are going for a exposed weave bonnet the car has to be either black or red. other wise it looks wrong but somthing else needs to be carbon to tie it in with the rest of the car. currly carbon do some massive archs don't know if they do anything smaller but don't go with FAKE carbon fiber its horride stuff any evey one knows its fake.

I will be getting carbon fibre mirrors to match, hopefully.

Will post a pic of the CF bonnet I sell, together with it fitted to a red Mini. As for colours of cars that look good, then Yellow, Red, Black, Grey, Blue etc etc. I am looking into doing these as a hinged bonnet as well, but due to setting these things up it will take time.

Hi smudger!! you got my mail then hehe..

I will have to ring you i think in the new year if thats ok? need to put some money in the tommy tank then i should be OK to get one, wil prob get MK1 stylee.

The trouble with my mini is because it is a 96/7 the bonnet latch is offset to the left, so is not a standard fitting.

But them fasterners look brill anyways!

Can anybody remind me what they are called?

Bonnet pins, or is that the other type?

Also, how are you going to lock you bonnet.

I was looking into getting the spring like straps for the front, then locking bonnet pins for the back

Smudger: Can you post a pic of the carbon fibre mirros you do please, along with price, plus any pics fitted would be great.

And are they adjustable?

evening people
i havnt got any pics, and even when i do they wont be what ur after....
but ive got a full curley carbon from with a removable bonnet, mines in a gel coat finish, and i can safely say its amazing, the weight of it is just stupid!
my whole front literally weighs about the same as my steel bonnet did.
looking back, if i was thinking, id have gone with a weave showing mk1 bonnet, instead of the mk3 gel coated finish ive got, but thats history....
carbon parts ROCK, the way i see it, its not really much more expensive either
if u wanted a carbon weave bonnet, by the time u have got a new bonnet, and had it sprayed, u may as well splash out the tiny bit extra for a carbon one anyway....

smudger, do u do a carbon bootlid at all? and if so do u do one that will take the locking mech?as i was going to get a curely bootlid, but was put off by the lack of locking mech.
also....
anyone know of any lockable bonnet pins as im not keen on my bonnet/whole front being nicked while im at work....

ill post pics of my mini with teh full carbon front as soon as ive finished rebuilding it  (before new year i hope)

I think i am going to use bonnet pins, but have them facing inwards rather then out. Means sticking my hand under the arch to get it open like, but less chance of a scally knowing where and how to open it.

Unless there a keyable pins or a mech somewhere....
