Nothing to them. I made mine in about an hour and that was including the time it took to cover it in cloth and mount the speakers in it.

Hey!

I fitted the speaker thing. Unfortunately, I cut it a little too low, so now there's a slight gap at the top. This is causing the bass to sound naff, but my brother reckons that I should fill the gap with high density foam, that'll stop the air getting from the back to the front of the speakers & distorting them. He also sid that the best bass sound you can get in a Mini (without adding a bass speaker) is in the parcel shelf. He reckons that back in the days of one speaker in the middle of the back shelf (medium wave days you know!), the sound from a shelf mounted speaker in a Mini was better that the sound from a door mounted speaker in a Rolls Royce! All to do with getting a large expance of air behind your speaker, you know!

My brother runs his own I C E business in case you were wondering!

Happy Valentines Day by the way. :) Did you get a card? Extra :) to those of you who, like me, didn't get one! :)

yeh this is true but they are also very easy to nick from there as they are on view.
as for the air getting it out it can b a good thing for spl but not for bass

i made mine, alot cheaper than buying them, seen some for upwards of £100, i made about 3 extra from a big piiece of mdf and flogged them to my mates, took about a hour (10 mins cratching my head). covered and fitted speakers, they look great and sound a little different under the seat. ohhhhhhhhhh young man. lol. xXxXx

Bass does not eminate from the sub in a paticular direction,.. it radiates outwards from all angles,.. so it really doesn't matter where you put it, but getting the right amount of air space for it does. this is the limiting factor on the mini as space is already at a premium.

Parcel shelf.... no. One of the most rattley panels in existance on the mini, It's wafer thin and making it less strong than it already isn't is not a good idea (yes lots of people do it anyway and it does work alright)

IF you're putting stuff in the parcel shelf that's anymore powerful than your average nasty 6x9 rubbish than really to get the best from it you'll want to be covering both sides in Dynamat (or something very similar for half the price!) and getting some expanding foam down the sides in the gaps (make sure you do a neat job of this or it really ruins the look)

You're other alternative is a Sub box in the boot.

Speaker boards are fine for things like 6x9's or 6.5" comps (which I'd prefer over 6x9's anyday) It wouldn't take long to knock another board up so it's a possibility.
