Is it a good or bad thing that my temperature needle hardly moves in this cold weather?

I have been warned about cold running and the oil not thining out etc etc etc..

Car is a MPI injection.

I get the usual engine 'not powering up', on gear changes, but this is due to the K & N and exhaust.

just wondered if it is anything to worry about, or shall i just continue to drive how i would anyways.

your temp needle should be your block (water) temperature, and not related to oil

oil reaches temp anyway, theres no stopping it

DO NOT drive your car hard when its just been started up after being left for a while, practically bare metal on metal...nottttt good

ps due to my clubby having a front mounted radiator, the temp needle is permanently buried well within the blue, pretty much all the time, its causing no probs at all

Apart from the fact that your heater won't work very well.

I would point out that mine runs too cold in the winter too, which leads to the engine being a bit jerky and not terribly responsive. This is most likely down to the thermostat being stuck open, and I for one am changing mine for the sum of £5.99 from halfords. For that money I would change it anyway and see if it makes a difference, 'because it should run a better if the engine is warm.

If the water temp is low the oil temp will also be low.

Check the thermostat

Its far worse to run an engine cool than it is too hot. As the engine never reaches normal running temp, acids are formed by combustion the damage the engine, one of the reason why cars that only do 'school' runs go through exhausts rapidly.

Exhausts actully rust from the inside NOT the outside.
