Hey y'all,

Recently I purchased a 1983 Austin MINI Mayfair (1000cc) for 750 pounds with the intention of fixing it up for speed. Being new to the restoration scene, I have a couple questions. "Don't laugh!" The body is in good condition with some surface rust.

First, is my MINI as a Mk III? Secondly, will a 1375cc engine fit in my body type?

Thanks

~Ash

There's no such thing as a silly question mate.

Your Mini is Mk IV, (that's Mini not MINI, your MINI is your other car).

The engine bay has always been basically the same, so all transverse A series engines will fit all Mini's (remember the block's always been pretty much the same). The only issue is with some of the gearboxes not fitting some blocks, but this is not a problem in your case.
The largest standard engine is the 1275 though, the 1380 is an overbored 1275. 1375 isn't a combination which you can make using any of the normally used bores/strokes.

Wow! I didn't relize there were so many different versions. Thanks for helping me understand the "MK" problem.

Does anyone know of a site that will allow me to check my VIN? I tried a couple sites but they didn't cover most of the VIN, only the beginning and end of the VIN.

Thanks again

~Ash
