hello! we are going to buy new wheels... i would love 10's but im njot alowed its either 13x7 wich i dont want because of accseleration reasons but i want big wide arches....
so i though ile stick to 12's but put an inch spacer on then.. we foned up midland wheels yesterday but the guy sed that ile be poping a ball joint every 2 months is this true?? i want 12's but i want spacers to put the wheels out so i cant have group 5 euro arches but i dont want it on 13's also because i dont want to cut the arch.... thank you!

12x6's shud be suffiecent to fill grp 5 / grp euro's i think.
Get deep dish rims for that big look.
Yes it is true, but not sure to what extent, spacers do provide more stress on balljoints, bearings etc. there was a big thread on this, to space or not to space.....
search forum for it.

you will still have to mod the arches slightly with 12x6". even 12x5" may catch the leading edge of the arch if you use large spacers.

If you go for some 6 x 12 Big deeps, these are the biggest offset in 6 x 12 you can get, and minor cutting of the arch is required at the front.
I have a set of 12 x 5.5 deep dish (not big deeps) and they scrape at the front, the wheel sticks out of the arch about 8mm. So not sure about the 12 x 6 big deeps with euro arches.

if the wheels/tyres stick out from the arch its an mot fail. the arch is there to cover the wheel.

It isn't actually an MOT fail..
All the MOT guy can do is 'Advise, he cannot fail it..
Unless it sticks out a stoopid amount!!
Mine has gone through 2 mots like how it is in the pix.

hmm... well if we got 12x6 deep dish's then and put a small spacer on like 3/8ths maybe and get the guy to take out some of the arch ie the bit that joins onto the wing untill they just stick out..... would that be beter from a wear and tear point of veiw?? and so i get the wheels stickign out??

If you are going to cut the arch out any, then you may aswel go for the 'big deeps...
There is quite a big visual difference between 'big deeps, and 'deep dish..
These are deep dish, not so nice as the 'big deeps!!
I really wanted a set of 'big deeps, but got talked out of it because of arch mods, when it comes to a tyre change, i am getting me a set of big deeps instead of a new set of tyres lol!!!!!

12X6 Deep Dish from hudersfield spares...
From that angle you cant really tell how deep they are and I think look really beefy!
Ok, I will let on to you now Miniman5. Im getting group 5 euro arches, so If ud wait to about the end of Jan/Feb you will be able tp see what my wheels are like with those arches.

i thought it was a fail if any tyre was protruding from the arch, as aparently according to mr law a pedestrian "could be caught"

The wheel arch must cover the entire width of the tread in the centre portion (I think it's 80%) of the wheel when viewed from above with the steering straight ahead, if it doesn't then it is a fail. It is ideal if the arch covers the entire wheel, but technically the rim and sidewall are allowed to stick out some so long as the tread doesn't. I believe the MOT can advise you if the wheel protrudes, and fail you if the tread does. From the photo's it looks like P91MER would just about get away with it, whilst Blackout's wheels are no where near legal.
I would avoid fitting deep dish wheels and spacers together. Depending on the wheel width, deep dish wheels are effectively spacered anyway (since the centre of the wheel is further away from the mounting flange than standard) so if you spacer them as well you are going to extremes. Ideally you wouldn't go more than 1/2" further offset than standard on a disc braked car (including any extra dish in the rim) since these cars already have the wheels set 1" further out than the suspension was originally designed for on the drum setup.
It does cause extra stress on ball joints, wheel bearings, CV joints, steering and diff, but how much exactly differs depending on your individual setup (tyre choice, rim weight etc.).

ahh thank you dan! i understand what every one is on about now so idealy i want 12x6 big deeps?? what about cutting the group 5's at the back (where they meet the wing) so that the wheel does stick out but no tred does?? so its just ligal like thiingi's

if you fit grp 5's it will cover the wheel so it will be legal!
