I have got a top dash rail in brown :S and i want it in black to match the lower one in the car. Any tips on how to paint and what paint to use?

Shall i just plastic prime it and spray with matt black from a can?

If I were doing it I would either re-cover it or use some purpose designed car interior vinyl dye. I re-covered one in the past, looked fairly good. Just be careful with the foam as it will have dried out and gone brittle by now.

I did the exact same with my dash. I had a brown dash and sprayed it black. It was a right job removing the top dash rail though :nugget: . I used this primer and this color match brush & spray set. Try and use the matt black finish as it's a lot easier to apply and you cant see as much runs if your not that good at spray painting. I put 2 coats of primer on and 3 coats of super acrylic paint. Then went over the whole lot with a few layers of cockpit spray. That way the effect is a nice clean gloss and the result is excellent.

Hope this helps and good luck :ohno: .

Use the vinyl paint, I use to use plasticote but the vinyl sort is getting hard to find, but I find the Halfords a £10 a tin is good... it will stand up to the strain of seats and a mate has just done both his top and bottom rails from one tin. looks the business...

make sure it is competely clean first and free from grease.. then Spary-Away...! :ohno:
