Balls - I lost the bid on ebay for the sierra rear end, but at least I know what I'm after now. And my guesstimation of 52" for the width of the sierra must be wrong, as apparently, the width of the mini is 55" (can anyone confirm this? I cant find a tape measure!) but that MUST be wrong, as according to spag, it's about 8" too wide - so that makes it approx 63" wide

Just a little off then! =]

ah well - tomorrow, I'm off to the local scrapyard to see if theres anything RWD there (doubtful)

nice one Rich, may have to venture onto there at some point!

But I have had a look on fleabay for alternatives, and the setup from a BMW 3 series could be made to work - although it looks MASSIVE

Posted Image

Whilst the setup from a BMW 5 series looks to be far more compact (even though it is a BMW, so it's possibly still huge)

Posted Image

Looks like the 5 series setup would be far easier to mount, what with only being held on apparently by 4 bolts!

and a Jag setup could work - but then I'd have NO boot, or even a back seat!

Hmm, I'll have a hunt around for one of those as well - but to be honest, at this scrappy, if I find ANYTHING RWD, it's more than likely to only be a bloody transit, with the pikeys still living in it knowing my luck!

But if I fail to find anything, on monday I might have a trip to a couple of breakers yards (about an hours drive away mind you) or I may even just phone around to save on diesel, and then I can just laugh at them when they say their silly prices =]

What about using a renault trans axle and mid mounting the motor ,that is if there would be enough room to fit seats in front
of it :P

ahaaa - nice thought, but I'm determined to keep the rear seats

lol, and cheers for throwing this back to near the top, saved me the job of having to dig through pages of posts to find it again for an update!

Not been able to buy or do ANYTHING in the past couple of months, as my finances were a LOT worse than I thought they were (going to have to see citizens advice about my debt tomorrow) but I've been doing some thinking, and I'm kinda tempted to not go for a normal front-end..............

Posted Image

It'll just make my job SO much easier!! As I can have the radiator front-mounted, and I wont have to shorten the engine, PLUS, I'll be able to use the standard rover gearbox, as I dont have to worry so much about trying to cram it all in the footwells now!

Also really tempted to try and make thefront similar to the one in Dogmatix's signiture...

Noticed an all up weight of 150kg mentioned for an A series engine. Is that true? Anyone got any exact weights for a 1275cc engine and box with all ancillaries?

Cheers.
