hi quick question,

upgrading the coil, and need to know whether i have electronic ignition or points?

i have a 1994 1275spi cooper and needs to know whether standard its electronic igniton or points?

an answer would be much apprieciated!!

Electronic I'd guess, A quick look at the dizzy will tell you - factory electronic dizzies will have an external amplifier module.

im at work and want to order some stuff, but i cant look at the dizzy now lol just wondered if anyone new what the standard was!

Thanks to Postman Pat you'll have time to double check but I really can't see points being used on a car that late - might be some info on the supplier's websites try the Moss online catalogue.

Its electronic deffinately. Everything post 1991 (with the intro of SPi's) was on the leccy distrubution system. Another way you can tell is if your dizzy has 2 screws holding the cap in place.

The 1990 RSP Cooper LE and 1990/91 Mainstream Cooper (like mine) had electronic ignition too, even though these were carburettor equipped models.

All Mini models followed suit from 1992 when all models got fitted with the 1275cc engine.

Only the Cooper SPi was fuel injected at the time, until all Minis followed suit in 1995?

yeah thats about right...last one to have HIF38 carb was the 35.
