Hello everyone, I'm new here and have a question please.

I have a Classic LHD Mini Cooper 1996 (with a Rover engine). The car is fitted with stainless steel wiper arms and 10" blades. The wiper blades needed changing, and I ordered some new blades from MiniSpares which cost me a fare bit to get sent to Luxembourg (that's where I am). Now, I made the mistake of ordering 11" wiper blades thinking that the wiper arm fitting should be the same as the 10" blades. Wrong!!. I now have the problem that I have to wedge some cardboard strips into the fitting to prevent the blades to not flying off imeddiately I use them. This of course is not the ideal solution, and I have to stop every now and then to replace the bit of (by now soggy) card.

I also got with the car the original wiper arms with conventional blades (making it easier to replace as I can get them from any car parts supplier in Lux).

My problem is I cannot figure out how to remove the wiper arms. I have spent hours in the freezing cold to try and remove them. It looks pretty simple (from looking at the spare ones I have), but can I get them off? Can I hell!!

Is there some trick, or special tool I need to do this?

If you lift the arm and look under the boss where the arm is attached to it you will see a small metal tang which sits in a groove on the spindle. Hold this tang back with a seal pick, screwdriver, hook or similar (be careful to protect your paintwork, use a thick piece of card or something cut around the spindle and placed under where you are working) and the arm should be removable. It will be on fairly tight still but will come off with a sharp pull upwards.

I tried that, but maybe I didn't pull hard enough. I will give it another go.
