Hello :-

There is a yellow piece in the engine bay (is that the right terminology?) and I have no clue what it is! I have checked the haynes manual and it seems to be the only component in the book that is NOT mentioned at all? It looks like a half yellow ball made of plastic material and has a couple of metal filter type things in it. It isn't holding on tightly to the piece of tubing that it is hanging off of at the moment. I've identified where it is in the mini... any help?

Looks like you have an Spi engine?

I very much doubt its the clutch master from your description.

Could be some sort of after market breather, or something standard but I don't really know injection engines.

I now have a picture from the Haynes manual and I have circled the mystery bit...

Also, would someone kindly mind moving this thread to the injection section? (Sorry)

Its a PCV valve (Posative Crankcase Ventilation)

It restricts the manifold vacuum when its high, at idle, and it opens up when the manifold vacuum is low at part and full throttle.

This type of valve is a specific type and has a trade name, cant for the life of me remember what it is, it'll come to me in while

Read up on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCV_valve

Later minis do not have these, instead they use an oriface in one of the stubs on the throttle body.

Sweet, thanks for the help! Is it easy to convert to the oriface style or do you know where I can buy replacement parts? I can't find it on MiniSpares or Ebay...

If I remember correctly, they actaly just ommited this valve, i dont believe there to be any difference other than the hoses.

I cant find the breather hoses on Minispares as there search engine is pants, but Moss definately show these hoses on their web site, lol and again their site is also pants as Firefox web browser doesnt like it.

The hose you are after is simply from the large right angled stub on the throttle body that goes to the breather manifold that runs at the back of the rocker cover.
