Just prepping all of the other components for my z car while im saving my last few bucks for my bike engined kit.

I have some standard hub assembelys ive cleaned up. Im looking to replace the disks with vented disks and the standard calipers with 4 pots

Are metro 4 pots up to the job? Or can anyone recommend anything else ideal for Z car with mostly trackday use and hillclimbing? Im looking to get them second hand and save as much cash as possible without getting stupid about it as this is obviously an important thing.

If anyone could spec out a good kit of disks, calipers and pads that would be great! Cheers

Metro or KAD 4 pots on 8.4" discs are a minimum std in my opinion. I would recommend wilwood really as they are a good compromise between value and performance compared to the likes of AP Racing gear.
At the end of the day you could spend a lot of time grafting something on from a scrapyard find but will it work well and be safe???? You shouldnt compromise on brakes and suspension.

cheers

you would need Metro Turbo brakes for the conversion I would say and Decent Drilled and grooved discs.

Personally I thing mark is right Brakes are most importat ( well after the engine) ( GO GO PART v's STOP STOP PART)

I just did a Metro four-pot caliper conversion as seemed straightforward, will let you know if they are good enough or not when I get a drive! :withstupid:

word of warning if you go down this route, only people I have found doing hose conversions kits for the Mini to these brakes are Goodridge, and they are awful quality kits, I am now on my second set and the car hasn't turned a wheel yet. The bolts once fitted to the caliper seem to stretch, meaning that if you take them off for any reason you will never get another good seal, even with new copper washers.

Thanks for the advise. So for the amount of hassle in the conversion a set of willwoods would be better. I hear though cast steel breaks like MG trbo get rid of heat very well also where as aluminum calipers and disks store heat.?

Does anone have any expierence with the Minisport made 4 pot calipers? Cheers

Also which mini grooved disks would someone recommend. Not toooooo expensive!

i know we sell the kits so i suppose im biased BUT i tried every type of caliper on the front of our cars and they all struggled to stop as good as i wanted them too
the six pot tarox were very good but too good you couldnt feel for grip and locked up too easily
we then invented our own brake set up and on track i can out brake pretty much everything im up against and make no mistake ive mixed it this year with some very nice cars
the trick of good brakes lies in the front to rear balance, the correct size so they work well and dont overheat,or are too good and you loe feel
if you ask anyone who has had one of our demos most will tell you that the power surprised them most will tell you they were surprised by the traction but all seem to be surprised with the brakes
i think that they are as good as we can get them and wont be changing anything for the race series even if we introduce a class for hyabusa turbos for example in the future

I would not doubt any of this sounds great. But with adding together all of the other costs that have come up from starting my project i was just looking for other ways i could have good brakes without spending nearly £500 if i can avoid it. Whilst wanting good braking.

Got any second hand sets Chris? Or anyone for that matter

ebay - paid £60.00 for my set, need to be patient though. I also hear there is a place in Wrexham (not sure what they are called) that reconditions calipers so condition can be dealt with, do some sleuthing I would.

Plus shipping and import duties, might as well just get them from Z Cars.
