ive got a 1992 spi cooper, and it will not rev. if you are stationary with your foot flat it fluctuates between 2750-3000 and not above. then if you drive it it will drive fine for a short period, then the car will start almost kangarooing.
i dont have a clue where to start with this engine i mean, can u get a code reading from it or a diagnostic machine on it? please any help will be very much appreciated. westy

No!!
I posted the link to the part you need
Its thot the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), its the throttle switch, its totaly different and only on the SPi Mini up to 93, it fits behind the throttle pedal, a spring pulls the throttle pedal back to ensure the switch is closed, there is a circular disc on the throttle pedal arm that acts on the switch, it is this switch that is the problem. This switch provides the ecu with inforamtion telling it that the engine is in an idle condition, if its stuck, when you press the accelerator, the ecu still thinks its in an idle condition yet the engine speed is rising, the ecu then retards the ignition and backs off the stepper, this causes the symptoms you are experiencing.
I am sure this is the problem but without actualy looking at the car my self, there is still a slim possability it is something else. Minisport couldnt diagnose this problem
Double check the thin black and red capilary lines that connect to the manifold and ECU, make sure they are all in really GOOD condition and connected as they should be. This also gives similar symptoms.
