Most metros had hydraulic clutches but some had a cable operated clutch. I'm not sure which internal parts are interchangeable but I'd simply take the clutch and flywheel from the 998, along with the flywheel cover, the clutch arm, and the slave cylinder from the current car.

Ooooh, I wouldn't do that. You don't want to disturb the setup of a Verto clutch unless you are going to also replace the clutch disc, as the self adjusting action makes it hard to get the adjustment right without all the parts being new. All you need to change on the Metro clutch is the release arm. Cut out the split pin and pull the clevis pin, remove the release arm and replace with a hydraulic type Verto arm. If the 998 is Verto then you can use the whole verto release assembly from that including he release arm, if not then you need to find a release arm, slave cylinder, bracket and all the sundries to put it together.

I actually meant to change the clutch disc too dan (good opportunity to fit a new one), but your way does sound much easier indeed.

Of course if he wants to go to a non-verto clutch, the first method will have to be used (replace the entire clutch assembly)
