What Do I Do.....

Well.
I went to a Interview on the 31st for Thomas Cook, for a position of Photography Executive.
and it went really well.
they told me I definitly get a call back next week...
anyway... later that day,
I recieved that phone call. asking me if I would accept the possition
So I was a happy bunny!
Only problem now is...
I have no savings,
I need to buy a Suit, some shirts, trousers, and shoes.
and... also... A car on the road!
I have been working on a project a Mini Park Lane 1987,
it was going ok, Till I found lots of holes, and we cut the front off.
I just went and bought a Fibreglass flipfront this week off David Kimberly.
and... now I have that job. (all being well)
I start on the 19th this month.
and my Mini Wont be ready!!!
Do I Work on it like mad? (costing money for welding, painting, and tax, mot)
which probably cost £1000 odd, (and wont be ready for my job)
or... do I sell it.
And get a member of my family to lend me the cash to get a Mini for £1200... with MOT/TAX
Ive seen a couple nice ones, for this price and they look in top condition.
I dont want the burdon and hassle of trying to get it ready,
and have problems with it... (rather get one thats working, and on the road)
What should I do?

Then you have the time/money to do your current mini properly, otherwise you'll find yourself spending money on little bits and pieces for your everyday mini, and the project will get forgotten.

At the moment im just waiting for the documents to come through with my job.
Have another interview today for a Junior Graphic Artist.
The mini I have at the moment... needs... well...
Welding - (£300+)
Paint needs to be respraid, as fibreglass front and two new doors are new. (£few hundred)
lots of holes, (more than I thought)
I would rather spend £1000 on one with a MOT/TAX in good nic, then one without and needs work.
I dont mind borrowing £1000, (I allready in £4000 debt with student loans,)
they offered £17k for me to work there. (and phoneing back the same day, show's there keen)
I haven't driven for 3 years! so I need a car before my new job really, so I can get use to rush hour! (job is a 40min drive there)
I dont want to have to worry about the car, Need to focus on my work and job.
I upload a picture soon to my first post.
so you can see what it looks like at the moment
edit: oh yea....
I hate normal cars. (though passed in a new car), I want a MINI! no other car will come close.)

Making a living and repaying your debt or struggling on as you are, borrowing to get by.
Id either sell the mini or leave it alone for the time begin.
Borrow £500 off whoever, get a decent run about (ford fiesta, escort, mondeo, 306 etc etc). Go to work, get paid, repay family £500, work more, put some money away, work more, more money saved, work some more. take a weeks holiday, work on mini spending some of the money u saved. Use rest of money you saved to pay off some student loan. And repeat.
If your desperate for a mini and willing to dive deeper into debt, im afraid you need your head testing. I cant sleep at night knowing im only a couple of hundred pound overdrawn when i decide to buy a new car or something....id be a nervous wreck with that debt.
by the way, £17,000 / 12 = £1416
£1416 minus tax, student loan repayment, national insurance = probally closer to £1100.
40min journey to work - say 30miles? 60miles a day, £5 of petrol.....
Alot of people think £17K lovely, but they think ahead about the tax and other costs such as petrol.
Good luck with your new job and im sure you'll make a decision thats best for you.

Are you doing the work yourself? because £1000 will not go far with the work you need to do if your paying someone else to do it, it cost more than your entire budget to get a decent paintjob, without prep, panels etc
My advice, stick with your mini, at least you know what state its in, get on ebay and buy the cheapest banger you can, or look on gumtree etc, you should be able to pick something up thats taxed and tested for udner £200, then you can take your time a bit with the mini.
Seriously if you're doing that much work its better to get it done right at the outset, otherwise you'll always look at it and regret it.

Im probably going to keep the project mini, (I dont full own it, but was going to get it on the road, and then pay the rest to the owner)
but its turned out alot more work than I thought.
I dont want to have that pressure of getting it ready in time.
So... I will keep and work with it when I can, then sell it if need be for a split profit.
yes its 1400, a month,
so I was going to do £100 a month for Student loan,
£200-300 tax
£200 for petrol + food
£100 for broadband and electricity I use.
I still live with parents.
basicly Im going to try and save. and pay people back.
I dont need anything other than a nice mini.
probably pay £200 back to the person of my family who lends me the money to get a car (depending on how much)
I dont really want a cheap run around for such and such... as I been down that road. (for me didnt end well)
Ive seen 3 mini's now MINT. for about £1000-£1500
with MOT / TAX
I'll let ya know how it all goes anyway. and what I decide

I had everyone telling me not to buy a new car... get a cheap one.
anyway... I saw this mini on ebay, wasnt too far away about 20 miles.
looked really nice in the pics, (emailed the man before aswell)
ended up winning it on monday. for £1370...
I HAD SO MUCH family problems with it, everyone telling me... leave home and stuff.
well... (cause we had mini probs before on ebay)
anyway...
I went to have a quick look today before I go pick it up friday.
lets just say....
This mini is going to be the best thing I ever bought!
I post pictures when I pick it up friday.
But you'll be amazed at this mini... trust me.

Just for an idea, regarding Jordies post, I paid £1100 for mine with 8 months MOT and 2 months tax..
So its very possible

Id say youre best finding one with MOT and tax. You need it for your job, and youve already admitted it wont be ready..

I did...
I found one
not MOT/TAX... but only needs belt clasp, and speedo working, oh and fog light putting in.
far as I can see.. should pass with flying colours.
