Indicator Problem

Best Answer Jordan18 , 07 December 2015 - 09:53 PM

I found the problem, thanks any turns out I didn't have any break lights as well, it was a blown fuse but it had broken in a way when I went over bumps or dips they would connect and complete the circuit then break again.

Thanks, Go to the full post

Hello There.
I finally got the car of my dreams a mini.
Picked up my little 1992 998 city Beauty for £500 with only 36k on the clock with only 2 owners from new.
with 9 months mot and tax perfect sills and new subframes what a bargin.
Here is the catch my indicators worked then my mate put the hazzards on for a laugh and the indicators stopped. check the fuses their fine but when i jiggled the fuse they worked again. but have know stopped. ive fitted a new fuse box which worked but then hazzards went on no indicators no blown fuse.
ive tryed checking the flasher units but cant find them? ive been told one is on my bulkhead new the widow wiper motor but there isnt.

Please can any one help me.

You may find the flasher unit hanging from under your dashboard as you sit in your drivers' seat. I do beleive it's the cylindrical one.

Yeah, that's where mine is - hanging on for dear life by the steering column.

Was just doing the indictaors and hazards this weekend on my mini. As alreay sadi the flasher unit is definatly the cylindrical unit located somewhere around the steering coloumn or behind the dash in front of the driver. With wiring help consult the haynes manual although the diagrams are god awful and extremely hard to look at and view they are accurate as i found this weekend when i did about 90% of the wiring on my mini. :-

Do not get the flasher unit confused with the square shaped relay in the engine compartment!!

It almost certainly will be the hazzard switch. Replace that first.

Yes the hazard warning light switch is a swine and mine has just failed even though it's barely ever been used!!!

A replacement costs 15 quid, so sod that until the next MOT.

I'm lucky that it hasn't upset my indicators..........yet.

Ive Checked the hazzard lights switch and its sweeter then sugar.
the only thing thats got me worried is that the hazzards effect the indicators in such a bizzare way and i still cant find the second flasher unit which is supposed to be in the engine bay on the bulk head.

p,s just fitted a nice little 12" mountney steering wheel it feels real good spining it quick and going round bends like a demon. just need full resto buckets, brakes, cage and 1.6 turbo'd K series engine slapped in the front good job there are lots of 416i low millage rovers going cheap.

You need a new hazard switch.

Hazard switch on the dash, the indicators are isolated when operated to allow the hazard flasher signal to be distributed to either side. suggest the hazard switch is open circuit care of ya mate

The hazard flasher is usually under the dash near clock wiring Its marked 21 X 4 which means 4 lights at 21 watt .
