Just to say that I have had BT broadband for over a year now, including a house move and never a second of trouble or problems.....seems you get what you pay for?

One other thing I have just remembered is that I am running McAfee which was free with the sky connection and its constantly saying my machine has been updated do I want to restart now or continue what i am doing. Most times I continue what I am doing to avoid waiting 5 mins for the laptop to shut down and restart again.

Is this update possibly something being sent from sky when they update the router.

Exactly... we had BT broadband for three years before we moved without a single problem.
Tried Tiscali in the new place just to save a few pounds - we've been so unimpressed we're going back to BT in December!

I remember my Uncle saying he was told (by a techy friend) to uninstall McAfee after he started getting problems with his Sky broadband.... So you might have hit the nail on the head there!

I have sky broadband and dont seem to have any problems, but I have heard that a few people do have problems. I think its is something to do with the router, they dont seem to be very good! I think a lot of people use their own router instead.

Have you tried asking for help over at http://www.skyuser.co.uk/ they seem to be pretty helpful.

Hmm... Netgear consumer stuff has been a bit flaky in the last 5 years. I've had a couple of DG834's at home and a firmware update usually seems to cure the stability problems. That may well be a bit too involved for you though if you're not too happy poking around in the technical parts.

What sort of encryption have you used? It doesn't always work seamlessly unless both the router and client PC's are of similar age & Wi Fi capabilites.

As was said earlier though, this isn't a problem with Sky BB - it's a traditional netgear reliabilty issue.

With the first revision router I had, I could repair the connection within XP after turning the router off (for about 1 minute) and then on again.

Definately agree with that, and also avoid Norton Handbrake at all costs. You should still keep some anti virus running at all times though. Grisoft AVG free is good as Matt says, or <a href="http://"http://home3.ca.com/Microsoft/Default.aspx?sc_lang=en-GB"" target="_blank">CA AntiVirus</a> is very good if you want to buy something.
