Plan on returning my car to injection next year and embrace this new technology. Will have something else to drive during the process so i will have the time, maybe not the temper, to sort out problems. First thing is the ECU, can anyone suggest a company to check and repair it? Before the change to carb the car was overfuelling and a change of vac lines and temp sensor etc made no difference so I suspect the ECU might be at fault. Going to buy a new lamda and air sensor to ensure all sensors are new too.

Any help would be great.

if it was working i dowt it was an ecu fault, have you checked everything especialy the map sensor and lambda senor, map is difficult on spi because its in the ecu so unless you know what your leave it alone, make sure the ruber elbows arent pushed on too far that will stop the vacuum getting to the map sensor and cause overfueling, its probably something simple, a fault code reader would be helpfull here one that you can see the readout of each component. also make sure you have a clean fuel filter my m8es was so blocked the petrol was dribling out of the injectors replace the fuel filter and flush the system out with fuel system cleaner im not sure what else it could be, check and check the map again, use a large syringe to create an artificial vacuum on the map and see if the engine changes pitch and smell, the you will know if its working

Did all usual stuff that I found on here but as you say the map sensor is in the ecu on the spi. Code reader is problem, don't know where to find one as no one local to me can help that's why I thought it would be better to send the ecu to a specialist to have it checked and/or repaired.

this code reader will work for spi you need all 3 of these:

try the syringe thing i said see if it makes any difference to the sound also connect a multimeter up 2 the lambda sensor it should read .45 volts if its running right, also check for air leaks in the exaust this can trick the computer inot putting more fuel in because it will think its running lean

You will also need the Rover cable specific to the SPi. The cabke kisted on eBay is an extension cable. I don't see any Rover Spi cables on eBay at the moment, but they can still be purchased new.

Thanks for the help. I need to change the cam first before the injection goes back on, mg metro cams don't like injection. Need to buy a injection freindly cam too.... Where does the diagnostic unit plug into the mems system? There is only one connector on my mems unit, must be in the loom then?

These are a good bet for testing your ECU if you really want to go that route

I had a problem with my pertol, was eating it up like there was no tommorow. Turned out there was a hole in my exhaust system, when I took it all apart it was my manifold, it was hanging on by 2 bolts and the gasket was mangled. I was told if there is a hole, the lambda sensor may read incorect amount of oxygen, therefore it tells the engine to use more petrol to bring the ratio back to normal. Ive now got a new exhaust system and my petrol is much better now!
