I used to be, did it for two years and is a good way of deciding if you want to do it for a career.

As to getting treated badly by other officers, most respect the fact you are there for free doing the same job as them and theres no problems, you just get the stupid few who might say a thing or two.

Im now full time and the thing i can say is having only 4 months in, i realise how little i knew as a special when i thought i knew what i was doing!

Depends where you go and what area you work in, our command team treat specials like poo to be fair.

Some of my mates in other areas complain because the level of training is really poor, they try and deal with jobs and often through lack of experience/training make a dogs dinner out of it - through no fault of their own, and then regulars are left sorting it out.

Personally, i have alot of respect for anyone that does the job for free.
