hi,
when i accelerate even moderately...my engine moves. it sort of leans forward on it's pivot. dad reckons worn engine bushes. is this rite?

what parts would i need to buy/replace? and how would i go about doing it?

also.....would an angine steady under the thermostat just do the job?

and another thing....on a different subject. suspension.....is it possible to lower standard mini shocks wiv hi-los?or do u need the lowered shocks and then adjust the hi-lo to th same height as the shock?

thanx

how much does your engine move? afterall your mounts are made of rubber so there will be a certain amount of movement but not loads. usual cause of excessive movement is worn stabaliser bushes replace these first. an extra engine steady would be an improvment.

you can lower standard shocks a certain amount but i wouldnt go to far as they will bottom out. best to get shorter shocks if your going really low.

Depending on the age of the vehicle, there will be one from the LHS of the engine to the bulkhead next to the clutch Master cylinder.

And possibly one from the front of the gearbox ( underneath ) by the oil Drain plug to the front of the subframe.

engine off grab head and pull/push it.
You'll notice it moves and if you look to the left there's an engine steady. Chances are the rubber bush at the engine end is worn. Also check the other end (bulkhead), and the bulkhead bracket.
If you've got a tuned engine an Ultimate Head Steady is recommended to help the standard one cope with the torque.

You don't need to hold it up with anything. The steady bar just stops the engine from rocking, its mounted using mounts either side of the engine on the bottom which you won't have to touch anyway.

Just get the dogbone looking thing going from the bulkhead to the engine block just under the head (on the driver's side), unbolt it at either end, inspect and replace the bushes (usually only the engine-end bushes need replacing).
