When I was fitting a new battery in my boot today, I noticed a really high pitched noise coming from my petrol tank when the engine was running. I dont know if this is natural, but I still have a high fuel compsumption, could there be a faulty device on the petrol tank?

Its the fuel pump, but not being able to hear it, i couldnt tell you if what you are hearing is normal or not. The fuel pump does make a whining noise and is normal

Yeah i hear that noise aswell coming from mine, its like the final noise that you can hear when you turn the engine off. It did concern me when i changed from carb to injection but i just kinda forgot about it an it hasnt broken yet so...... always nice to know that these things are normal tho :withstupid:

mine whines a tiny bit when driving, and when you switch the ignition on,it whirrs then clicks, which i assume is when its up to pressure. it works fine and drives well so its not a concern for me

That works out to 35mpg so about right but it might be running a little rich.

I did a test on a stage 1 1275spi and maaged 38mpg, so its not far off and nothing to worry about. You need to do lots of miles and record all the fuel used and the total distance travelled, that way its more of an accurate figure. Remember that MPG figures are quoted as average

I'm currently getting about 30mpg - thats with the sportspack airbrakes and the nakerd gearbox. Can make 3 work trips (there and back) on about £18 of petrol.
