clutch pedal rise when u take foot off pedal?
May need bleedin or adjusting.
Or maybe u shud select gears abit more carefully

Well at a stab at this I would say your baulk ring has gone on the reverse gear. If you can select all the gears fine when the engine is off then it suggests that the clutch is ok.

Or knackered master/slave cylinder meaning the clutch won't disengage...?

There is no baulk ring for reverse unless you have a Jack Knight 5 speed.
Your clutch needs adjusting, topping up or bleeding or an overhaul.

Right, just read the post two of three times to make sure...
You selected reverse... crunch... then turned off the engine, selected reverse, started car, and reversed out...
Have you selected any other gear whilst the engine is running... ?

Sounds like just a bit of drag in the clutch... bleed the system ancd check the external bits for wear and play ( clevis pins etc ) and that's all you can realy do, as you have a verto, anything else will involve removing the bell housing.

The clutch needs adjusting and is probly getting near the end of its life too, but as you have the verto set-up that is self adjusting, you can't adjust it manualy. Like said before, check for play in the arm and pins, and blead the system thru.
Clutch/brake fluid absorbs moisture, so after a while it does go 'off' and become not as good.
With the engine off and the clutch pressed or not pressed, you'll be able to select all the gears anyway.
