the problem is my pil pressure light in the morning when i eventually get the mini satrted the oil pressure light comes on and satys on till i give the engine a few revs. could this be terminal or could my car just need an oil change, different grade? 15w40 at the mo.

it also smokes on start up in the morning, i think this is due to the stem seals so i am gonna change these when my new head goes on. am i on the right track.

and one last problem when i have my sounds tured on not at a stupid volume and i am at lw revs the engine jurks a bit with the bass do i need an uprated altenator or could it be a fault with my ice. i only get a small sub and amp.

the stem could be causing the smoking. it could also be the piston rings. these would both lose a bit of oil pressure.
as regards the bass, any load on the electrics make the engine speed drop, eg headlights, rear window. an uprated alternator wont help. my headlights dim when i get a good bass note. i dont think its a problem, as long as it doesnt flatten the battery

let us break this down a little....

By the sounds of it, yes the current draw by the ICE is causing a strain on the alternator, but this is not you major problem..

The smoking on start, yes does suggest valve stem seals or guides, as you car rests oil accumulated in the rocker cover seaps down the valve and onto the top of the inlet valve, which when you start the car, gets burnt off in the first few minutes.

But the oil light not going out should start to ring bells... first it could just be a simple as the oil level is a bit low, but what it could also suggest is a tired/worn pump, or the first signs of Big ends.

The problem is that the standard oil pressure switch is set to go off @ 15 psi, which is realy low, once that is on, your already starting to damage the engine.

Suggest you give the engine a full service, and maybe get an oil pressure guage fitted, and monitor.

Worn rings won't affect your oil pressure. Worn bearings and a worn oil pump will drop your pressure. Consider changing from 15W40 oil to 20W50 for starters.

The valve stem oil seals may indeed be causing your smokey startups. Since you're replacing the head, don't worry about that aspect until after you've put on that new cylinder head with new seals. While you've got the head off, visually inspect the bores for scoring. If you're lucky the new head will fix the problem.
