Does Chris's post on the croft race report not shed any more light on this issue? Machining down the diameter of the shaft puts less heat onto the boot so its not so 'tight' when its running hot causing it to split?

or am i dreaming

the drive shafts we are using on the new kits are a mondeo item the way they are made in the factory leaves "high spots" in the surface of the ball races which on a road car would get "run in " over a few hundred miles what i did the other day was speed up this process by using grinding paste to smooth out the tightness seems to have worked but im going to keep an eye on it at oulton park
i bought a batch of 50 shafts the other month so im keen to cure the problem
the early cars were sierra shafts and the biggest problem with them is you cannot get original ford boots for the shafts the aftermarket boots are softer allowing them to expand at speed and either rub on the arm causing them to split or they just flex till they split
lowering the engine helps and we do smaller rubbers for he rear two mountings
the latest kits are lower mounted in any case once i crack the tight drive shafts issue it should thewn be a permanant fix
the good thing about racing is it exposes any problems quickly
thankfully the shaft lasted all the race at croft and seems fine still

been in spain testing the latest spec monte carlo turbo hayabusa with its new owner
boy thats a nice circuit at jarama
used to be a F1 till the 80s but its just awesome in a fast mini loads of tight up and downhill sections only one long straight and bags of overtakingh points if you are brave
anyway back to the plot weve now done three days of running on the z cars racer with no trouble on the shaft front so im guessing its a fix considering how fast i was going through them before
