I dont think this is possible...... you need to have access to the valve head with the spring compressor... so head off job....

its easier to just whip the head off and fit a new gasket afterwards

cheers for your replies, i thought that my self, it was just i read in a mag that u can do it by slidding a thin screw driver down the spark plug hole to hold the valves in place while u changed each spring

cheers

Why are you fitting double valve springs? Fitting 1.5:1 rockers?

other wise theres no point!

Easier to take the head off, youd have to do that anyway fitting high ratio rockers.

It is possible to change the springs without removing the head, but you need an overhead valve spring compressor, an air compressor and the addapters to fit into the spark plug hole.

Another way is to fill the cylinder with rope at BDC with the valves closed and turn the engine over untill it compresses the rope against the valves, again you need the overhead valve spring compressor.

Both these last methods are only suitable with the springs on the rocker shaft rather than the spacer, thats what the spring is for.

DO make sure you get the correct fitted valve spring height. This can cause spring crush, wandering springs or valve bounce if you get it wrong. You have to be very accurate.

Its a head off job then as you will have the rocker spacers instead of the springs
