Hi, i got a mini sprite SPI, its great fun but when you floor it especially in 3rd and 4th gear it coughs & splutters, even when warm.

You have to put the clutch down bring up the revs and it recovers, its worse when there is more weight in the car. It varies, sometimes u have to ease of the accelerator and then accelerate slowly.

It idles fine and 1st and 2nd gear there are no problems. I replaced the spark plugs and ignition leads in the summer and the problem went for a couple of weeks then it came back!

Any ideas

Cheers
Sam

It Sounds like it could be the clutch slipping, possibly the oil seal is letting oil into the bell housing which has contaminated the clutch plate.
