I have heard that drum brakes (all round) take a bit of adjusting regularly. Mine are quite efficiant at moment but when the time comes how do i go about adjusting them?

There is a square adjusting bolt on the back, turn clockwise to to move the brake shoes nearer the drum. I think theres two adjusting bolts on some brake drums, depending on which type u have. Make sure you get the proper square spanner to adjust them as I have round them off before!!

Thank you!...i take it you have to be extra careful not to upset the left/right/ front/rear brake balance?

you got it, a well maintained set will be in balance most of the time... but with drums most of the adjustment is down to feel..
On the front ( with twin leading shoes ) there are two adjustment points which turn an offset pin, and on the rear one.
The procedures in Haynes etc, are pretty good..
