The second is best IMHO, Rob. But beware of mucking about with No. plates since they play a key role in the government money-raising enterprise known as speed cameras.
My dad's nickname was Ham, which is one of the Wiltshire registrations, so he had no probs!
It's been suggested before on this forum I think (and originally in Viz comic) that it's cheaper to change your name to fit your numberplate!

You getting 19 as your age?! If so, I wouldn't because then it will be out of date in a year, I'd go for birth year instead.

If this is a gift from your parents then you really don't want to mess about with the way you display it, as the current penalty is a fine (which is fair enough) but they also WITHRAW the registration. You never own your registration number, it's just a number which gets issued to you so they can take it back whenever they want to. I'm sure your parents won't be happy if they spend out on it and you only have it a few weeks.
They probably chuck a few points at you as well just because they can!

I think using your initials is far more classy than trying to spell your first/surname as you cant ever actually spell it and it looks ridiculous. I was looking at '21 AJN' but then had to slap myself for being so self absorbed. ouch. it was only 500 plus VAT though. Tempting bargain.

If it's a private registration it can say whatever you like, but a chavvy reg with some pseudo random letters chosen off of the DVLA website which bears a tortured resemblance to your name is not a private registration.
A private registration costs a lot more.
But if it is just a normal reg which is similar to your name then it has to follow the normal rules and so you should use an age related plate. If you can't get one of the same age or a little older than you have to use a Q.

I know this is slightly off topic but.......about 10 years ago I met this girl who had a Ford Fiesta with the number DEL80Y, guess what, she scrapped it, I reckon that plate was worth a bomb, I only wish I had got to it first.
