Car was sounded rough tonight, so I've checked for oil leaks, none. Took rocker cover off to check rocker assembley, seemed fine although a couple had about 0.5mm of play?! Took spark plugs out and the following has happened to one. What symtons would this give me?! I want to know what this would do to the running of the engine before I say what symptons I had.

rough running, like its only running on 3 cylinders. bit of popping at the exhaust maybe. and a fairish lack of power.

Good, sounds like my problem may be solved with just new spark plugs then, will let you know tomorrow.

Yep, got the new spark plugs today, fitted them and the engine is running much better.

One thing I never knew though is that the are two different types of connectors on the end of spark plugs, one looks like a golf tee and the other is just a threaded pole. I had to use the spark leads from my Clubby as the ones I did have on their didn't fit. Any know why there are two?!

uv got a fair bit of gap there in your rockers, that would make it noisy, might b worth just checking them all

New plugs always come with a nipple which threads onto the stud on top of them and adapts them to push on leads. Screw clamp leads are very old fashioned but are still used on some engines such as lawnmowers and anything else subject to heavy vibration.

Where did you manage to get new plugs without adapters in the box?

You should be able to unscrew the adapters from your old plugs and stick them on the new ones.
