Can you fit one of these mod chips (clicky) to an '87 Mini Mayfair :erm: .

They work off the ECU. What year was the ECU introduced to Mini's, and where's my ECU? :P

erm in a word no....lol

Mini's didnt get ECU's untill about 91ish when the SPI's were introduced.

just had a look at the link. all they are is a little resistor that goes on your air temp sensor usually, cost about 10p each once you know the right size to fit.

You have a carb, not injection.

But if you did have injection, fitting one of these would be a great way to drastically shorten the life expectancy of your engine. It's just the same as driving with your choke full on all the time in a carb'd car.
