This may seems to be a stupid question

Can anybody explain me the difference between solid disk brake and a vented one?
(Performance wise)

And what is best for mini, to use in road use and occasional Drag racing

(998cc engine)

performance wise id say vented or better as they dont heat up as quicklly as solid so there is less chance of glazing of the pads.

and personally i would rather fit vented given the choice...

but for normal road then solid are fine, especially as you only have a 998 like most of us out there

hope this helps

neither the top makes for some reason can't remeber now don't use vented or drilled and use dotted which have little dimples in these are supposed to be proven the best. Also don't think more the better, disks with loads of groves/vents or drilled holes aren't anymore affective than ones with less sum are even worse so don't be fooled!

Grooves/slots/dimples are in discs for a different reason to venting. Pretty much all the manufacturers use vented discs for performance cars. A vented disc is essentially two discs with a gap between them, cast together as one piece. There are air channels through the disc to allow cooling of the disc face. They prevent brake fade basically and are a very good thing.

Grooves, slots and dimples are on discs to allow the build up of gasses between the pad and the disc to escape and to continually scrape clean the pad face. Nothing to do with cooling at all.

Yup as usual Dan said it all. The vents are for cooling the grooved, drilled discs are for scraping the pads. And yeah vented discs are a lot better on a car especially when driven hard or driving down mountains.
