when im driving, as of yesterday, the whole electrics will cut out for a few seconds over and over again, sometimes for longer and obviously this stops the engine. the battery light also lights up suggesting maybe an alternor fault?? this will happen a few times. so i have to pull over. turn off for 5 minutes and then everything is ok for another 10 15 minutes.

its a 1993 mini mayfair 1275. the battery clips are perfect so nothing wrong with them. dont know what to do...any help iwl be great
THANKS!!!
andy

just follow this cable from the boot to the bonnet and check every inch of the cable and all joints it should go to the starter motor then split down in to dofferent circuits .

Sounds like you have a pretty bad short somewhere!!! Dodgy cable is very likely. Check it out soon since this can result in fires..

firstlly does the battery warning light come on before the engine dies or after.

at what speed does this happen, accelerating or braking

you could have aloose connection on the coil, but that is just a wild guess until you can answer the other questions please

I had a similar problem on my 93 mayfair although on mine the ignition light would come on but no power to the starter. Check out one of the ignition wires i believe it is the white with a red or pink trace (cant quite remember). For some reason this wire runs from the ignition all the way to the front of the car by the dizzy and then back to the ignition. You will have to take some of the tape off the wiring loom to get to it but at the the front (just behind the grill infront of the dizzy) this wire has a bullet connector in it and mine was lose and corroded causing the intermittent problems. It took me about 6 months to get to the bottom of this so i hope it helps.

Could be nothing to do with this and as your symptoms are slightly different i would check all the alternator and starter wiring before you start unravveling the loom.

Does your car have the rover factory fitted alarm and immobiliser?
