Been having endless problems with the mini at the moment and im rapidly losing the love for it. The engine has not even been run in yet and i have only done about 15miles since the rebuild!

Anyway, i went to replace the lambda sensor (its a 1.3 mpi) today, so i removed the inlet manifold first to find that there was what looked like oil in the inlet manifold itself. Now how could this be getting in there?

cheers dave

How long have you been turning the engine over for without it trying to start?

Are you sure its oil and not fuel?

If it is oil, the only place that can come from is through the rings and valve stems.

How much of a rebuild was done, did it include a head rebuild?

Well im pretty sure its oil as it feels much thicker than fuel. But i would have thought if it was coming past the rings then it would be going down the exhaust manifold. Surely it wouldnt go back into the inlet manifold. The head was a brand new stage 3 rebuilt by Morspeed so the head should definately be fine.

its sounds like the C**p that gets sucked into the stepper motor housing from the crankcase vent system..very thick goo like oil....its what clogged up my stepper motor till I cleaned it up and it began to work properly.

So whats the best way to get around this? Seperate oil breathers?

I wouldnt be bothered by it. unless someone had removed all the parts and had directly plumbed the pipe to the intake...its supposed to happen and doesnt hurt the motor, just need to check on the stepper motor every now and then depending on how much you drive.
