Hi !
I have acquired a 1380 block/crank/rods/pistons etc (yes.......off e-bay)
They are in pretty good nick.
But the block is a pre A Plus fitted with a verto clutch.
I had intended to put this in my SPI Sprite keeping the injection system.
My concern is that I now think that the distributor drive differs between the two block types.
Does anyone have experience of putting an older block into an SPI ?
Any advice please ? (Probably go and get an A+ block !)
Cheers
Iain

You are right, the distributor drive is indeed different.

What you could do is find an A series distributor, remove the points and gubbins and lock/ weld the sliding plate so that the shaft is fixed and use that as your distributor. Maybe a slim possability that the SPi dizzy shaft would fit the A series dizzy housing? Experiment >_<

Update !
I have sorted the distributor.
I must admit I had a bit of assistance from a chance find on the net.
Go to www.ime.org.uk/ime/d/dizzy_turbo_preaplus.html
The article describes in detail the convertion.Very simple.
The only difference is the drive dog which needs to be taken off a pre a plus distributor and put onto the electronic A+
Took me about 2 hours in the garage thisafternoon.Main problem was getting pin out of old drive dog on the old distributor.
Ended up having to drill it out. After that straightforward with re-drilling the old dog onto A+shaft and using the A+ roll pin.
Have trial fitted onto old pre A+ block and seems fine.Have yet to modify the clamp but that is just a matter of grinding out the diameter of the clamp.
Now just got to re-build rest of engine !
Cheers Iain
