Will twin SUs off an austin princess fit on a mini? Ive been given a pair apparently which had been recon'd, put on a mini and then found to be too scarily fast for the driver which is why she took them off, put them in a box and threw them in when i bought her car. Hmm i suspect BS here, esp with so much other highly suss stuff i was told about the shed. her dad: "Aint these minis got an A rated engine, which means you cant blow them up?i think they have!" Upon which i offered to blow the engine up for him to disagree... i think he means a series....
Anyway they didnt seem to want to fit earlier on when i tried. any thoughts?

"Standard" twin carbs for a Mini would be HS2s. Any HS2s off of anything could be made to work IF you have a Mini intake manifold and IF you change the mounting isolators for the float bowls so they will be level when installed. Of course, if they came off some non-Mini car you'll want to rejet them when you rebuild them. (Don't forget you'll also need the dual carb linkage(s), springs, and heat shields).

That said, setting up twin carbs is a PITA. Vizard and others lament the poor performance of 'most' twin carb intake manifolds. My car has twin carbs and I'll leave them on for originality. If I wasn't concerned about keeping my car original, I'd use a single larger carb jetted to work best with my engine. There are much better intake manifolds to choose from and a wealth of possible donor carbs.

Are fitting twin su's something you HAVE to tell the insurance companies?

The only good thing about twin carbs is they look good. They are a pain in the arse to fit, set up and keep in tune and balance. Dont bother mate, get an decent HIF instead.
