Electronic ignition off the metro is easy to wire up, make 2 new wires about 8" long and connect one end of each to the coil '+' and '-' terminals. The other ends go to the dizzy. There is also a wire that powers the coil (yellow and white?? Anyone know?) which needs leaving on. Depending what sort or dizzy you have it will either have 2 or 3 connections. If it has 2 then put the 2 new wires on and try and start the car, if it wont start then swap them over so they on the other way round. If it has 3 terminals then use the original connector from the electronic dizzy and connect the new wires to the exsiting wires on the connector. Same principal applies here, if it doesn't start then just swap the wires over.
As for the wire to the dash, do you mean the wire for the rev counter? If yes, then it could that the wire is too thin or there is a fault with the rev counter maybe.

no its the wire from the coil upto the fuse box then on going to the ignition switch i asume its getting hot when running the car for about 3 miles or more.

i have a theory as to why the cable might be getting warm.

what year is your car, reason being is it might have a ballast ignition system, which means that there should only be 9v at the coil, there is a special wire they use for this purpose, plus something else can't remember what.

but if you are drawing to much current from the coil and the electronic ignition, or points, even using the wrong coil, will cause the wire to draw extra current, and get hot

i found this out curtouslly of somerford mini's when i phoned them ref an ignition problem i had with my baby
