At times when i go to start my car i have the igniton light and oil light on, my car has done it since i bought it but i thought nothing of it. Now im wondering if there is any reason why it would come on with my ignition light.

The light only comes on every so often and as soon as the engine is turned over it goes out and it doesnt come back on at all.

Any ideas to why?

Thanks

Jackman

Perhaps it comes on because it's meant to?

Any time the ignition is switched on but there is low oil pressure (as in before you start the engine) the light should be on. If you switch the ignition on and the oil light doesn't glow, then you have a problem and need a new oil pressure switch.

dont all cars do this?! you usually get a test for the brake fluid level, ABS, airbags etc too when you turn the key to the position before "start", altho not on a mini thanks to that wonderfully random brake-light-bulb-test switch and complete lack of other technology

I wondered if it was due to my wiring loom, there is so much corrosion on it im suprised anything works at all.

if it only happens every now and tehn, there is also a good chance that there is a problem with the connector going onto the oil presure sender.
have a quick look at the connector before changing the sender.

:cheese:
